COURSES

Does your Club or Area need Directors?

Director Training Courses managed by the WBU National Director Tony Haworth using the WBU syllabus are available now.

These not-for-profit courses run by the WBU will offer you formal qualification once a course has been successfully completed.

The WBU offers Basic & Advanced Courses anywhere in Wales on request (subject to sufficient attendees).

A 2017 Laws of Duplicate Bridge Book plus WBU training publications are supplied f.o.c. to all attendees.

Next Course – Basic (Book Rulings)

No course scheduled as yet, but those interested should contact Tony Haworth.

The course is two-days, concentrating on ‘book rulings’, with a view to trainee directors acquiring an appreciation and understanding of the Laws (rather than ‘learning’ them). The intention of this course is primarily to train directors to competently run Club Level events, and progress to Area events possibly with some assistance.

The course is designed around the 2017 Laws, so can also be a refresher even for Directors with limited experience.

Day 1 gives a brief overview of the Director’s role, powers, and duties, before more detailed appreciation of the Laws pertaining to various aspects of the Auction – change of call, insufficient bid, call out-of-rotation etc. The important concept (2017 Laws) of ‘Comparable Call’ will be discussed at length.

Day 2 concentrates on various Law aspects of the ‘Play’ – penalty cards, leads-out-of turn, revokes etc. It also includes a brief session on ‘Movements’.

All presentations are via Powerpoint. This is ‘your’ course, so on both days there is a considerable involvement in simulation exercises.

The maximum cost of each course is £40, but will be less with sufficient numbers (in many cases Clubs pay for their attendees).

Next Courses – Advanced (Judgement Rulings)

No course scheduled as yet, but those interested should contact Tony Haworth.

The course covers ‘Judgement Rulings’, which primarily includes ‘Unauthorised Information’, ‘Mis-Information’, ‘Claims/Concessions’. There is also a session on ‘Scoring Adjustmants’ (using EBUScore).

The presentations are via Powerpoint. This is ‘your’ course, so there is a considerable involvement in simulation exercises.

The maximum cost of the course is £40, but will be less with sufficient numbers (in many cases Clubs pay for their attendees).
