 Bridgesteddfod20th-23rd August – Our four main National Competitions are being held over a four day Festival of Bridge – “Bridgesteddfod”. The venue for this year is The Holiday Inn, Central Cardiff (opposite the castle). Each day there will be a main Green Pointed Championship two-session event and alongside that, players who do not wish to compete in the main events will have the option of playing in one or both of two single session relaxed bridge sessions. Inter County League – the National Finals of the Inter-County Leagues took place online on Sunday 7th June. Champions from each of the five regional Inter-County leagues were invited to compete alongside last year’s national champions. East Wales, who qualified by winning the English “Western League”, took the national trophy across the border for the first time, narrowly holding on to their lead in the last round against eventual runners up Kent.

Diana Panniers it is with deep sadness that we report that Diana died on May 4th, after a gradual decline over the past 4-years. Her age was always a well kept secret but her contribution to Welsh Bridge over 50 years was admirable. Obituary

European TransNational Mixed Pairs – This spring, the EBL is proud to launch a brand-new event: the European Online Transnational Mixed Teams Championship: a first in EBL history. Youth Camp – following the good Welsh result is this year’s Junior Camrose, some of you may be intesested in joining the Youth Camp in Scotland on June 19th-21st. Milan Macura, an experienced youth coach from Czech Republic will  be teaching at it, so it’s a great opportunity to see him in action. Essex CBA – are extending a welcome to any WBU members to participate in their one-day Swiss Pairs on Sunday 29th March on RealBridge. As you may know, Essex has “out-reached” in various ways to many clubs and associations around the world.  One pair from Wales regularly plays in their International Pairs on alternate Wednesdays. The entry fee is £25 per pair, there are money prizes for the top three. See Details

Neville RichardsNev, a former CEO and President of the WBU, who sadly died in December, had a passion for supporting the Wales Air Ambulance and initiated the WBU Sims where proceeds were shared with that Charity. Nev’s widow, Margaret, has found it heart-warming to have received so many donations for The Air Ambulance from clubs and members of WBU, in his memory.  She extends her thanks to all in the WBU. European Championships 2026 – Please let ceri@wbu.org.uk know if you wish to express an interest in playing in the European Championships in June 2026 (June 27th – July 7th). There are open, mixed and seniors teams events being held – please note that there is no funding available. Players need to be completely self funded. Entries will be passed to the Selectors. There are also Pairs events which require no selection, but the WBU has to approve the entry.
